The rate of literacy in Sylhet is presently in alarming position & evenmore in the field of higher education. Out of this realization, a few persons devoted to education simultaneously formed two private limited companies - i.e, "Holyland Private limited" & under a common company" Holy sylhet Holding ltd." With a view to enlighting people of this region. Subsequently, in the perspective of sociocultural demands of the people of the Sylhet, these two companies took measures to set up medical college for women with a modern hospital. As a first step of the holding company it was decided to set up women's medical college with hospital in Sylhet named as "Sylhet Women's Medical College."
As constitutionally recognized fundamental right, every citizen of Bangladesh deserves getting proper health care. But, in the present socio-economic condition of Bangladesh, mere government efforts in this regard do no suffice. Till today,the proportionate rate of people receving health care of the persons providing it, is much higher than many developing countries. Considering the peoples demond ,the government of Bangladesh has taken various welfare activites. In order to improve the standard medical services,the private efforts have been encouraged. Medical services in developed countries under private efforts have achieved unprecedented success and our country is also not lagging behind. "Holy Sylhet Holdings Ltd" a reputed company has taken initiative to establish a Women's Medical College and a modern Hospital to uphold the womens medical education and render quality health services to the people.
In the world today , efforts have been taken to make the under privileged women's folk worthy citizens to provide them opportunities in contributing to social development and to build them up in leading the nation towards prosperity. In this connection the private sectors in Bangladesh are striving hard to achive good results.We feel happy that in the field of medical education in Bangladesh,the number of girls are ever increasing compared to the boys. But as ill luck would have it, every year,having been deprived of getting admission in to public medical colleges, a large numbers of genious, elegible and talented girls are either saving goodbye to their studies or quiet unintentionally having recourse to other courses. The initave to set up "Sylhet Women's Medical College and Hospital" has been undertaken with a great hope to let our women to play a vital role in the sphere of medical education and medical services to the nation.
The founding of "sylhet women's medical college" may be an insignificant step, but it aims to make women self-relaint, self confident , self governing and to develop professional excellency together with high norms and unique moral values. With the grace of Allah the Almighty,we are happy that,we have almost completed our first phase plan with completion of seven storied college & seven storied hospital bulding (375 beds),(soon it will be a 500 beed hospital) equipped with modern equipments & available specialized services.
